About a Blogger Who Remembered How to Laugh

New York City in September

About a year and a half ago my department was relocated from Enterprise Marketing to Information Technology, and with that… my travel budget kinda died.

But I was able to convince the countries largest Italian chain to have a face-to-face meeting at Google NYC HQ to bring together: 3 Google peeps, 3 D**den peeps, and 5 agency peeps to basically nuke from orbit the existing paid search strategy and conceptualize an entirely new one.

So I got to NYC last week and had an AMAZING trip! Including but not limited to:

FRONT ROW SEATS AT THE COLOR PURPLE ON BROADWAY!

My boss and I were treated to a fantastic dinner followed by front row seats to The Color Purple on Broadway and it was one of the most breathtaking artistic experiences of my life.

I have LONG been a fan of TCP. I read the book many years ago and the movie is a classic I can watch whenever it is on TV. To see it on stage, with real acting, sitting so close that the actors shook our hands… no words.

The acting was so real, so emotional. Not only were the actors crying real tears, but so were me, my boss, and my Google peeps. By the end the entire audience was standing and I was sobbing. An incredibly moving musical and an experience I will add to my Reverse Bucket List for sure!

DINNER & DRAAAANKS WITH MY FAVES!

After my first day at Google HQ my amazing Grace ran through the rain to meet me at my hotel, and we later had dinner and draaanks with our Mike. I went well outside of my diet comfort zone with tortellini and carrot cake, and two strawberry basil martini’s and a glass of orange pinot gregio. #itwasworthit!!!

FASHION DURING FASHION WEEK!

After dinner and draaanks with my besties we made our way to the Soho Grand Hotel for an opening of a friend’s line in a store. Her name is Jai and though the dress above is *not* from her collection, I have to say that I absolutely adored her line.

She’s all about reversible clothing and if I’d had an extra $450 to spend, I would have totally purchased a piece. If I hadn’t been wearing a fierce lip stain, I would have tried it on and then been unable to stop myself from purchasing a dress that’s basically a 2 in 1… and then she told me it’s also reversible front to back and I realized it was a 4 in 1 and ’bout died.

I SPEND DAAAAYS AT GOOGLE NYC!

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I spent sequestered in the NYC HQ for my favorite search engine and worked through issues and strategy for all of my brands and two areas of my channel. It was exhausting, exhilarating, and amazing.

I may or may not have asked what it would take for me to work there… and I may or may not have heard that all I need to do is find the right role and be willing to relocate. Which, given my last post, is not entirely off the table…

I WALKED THE CITY & SPENT AMAZING QUALITY TIME WITH MY BOSS IN THE FLOWER DISTRICT!

This is the second time I’ve stayed in NYC at the Fairfield Inn in the Flower District and I absolutely love it. The view of the Empire State Building is great and I’m always able to navigate my way back to the area with the big lit up building to guide me.

Truly, something about waking up to a view of people carting out dozens and dozens of beautiful flowers and that building in the skyline just makes me happy.

The other bonus to this was excellent quality time spent with my boss, hitting Gym Bar and walking the city for many blocks, talking work and personal life and everything in between. Such an amazing trip.

Overall I forgot how much I enjoyed traveling with my boss and this was a very special trip in that I got to have a lot of fun after work hours.

Next up: I fly back to LGA in one month to catch the crew for an upstate, Apple-picking fall vaycay!!
