This NYE I was so sick that I couldn’t even enjoy my super yummy champagne. Thankfully my plague didn’t stop my dearest Alicia and Ryan from coming over to hang out with me and Vince for a super low key, incredibly chill night at our house.
As we sat around waiting for 2016 to end, I started trying to remember other chill, low key New Year’s Eve. That led to a LOT of foggy memories and literally digging through photos from every camera phone I’ve ever had – by date – to piece together what I’ve done the last 16 years of New Year’s Eves.
I actually remember all but one of them – Thanks, photos from New Year’s Past!
**Apologies in advance to those of you in these photos but seriously, LOOOOL!
1999 – 2000: High School party at a friends. The most memorable moment was when it turned 12:01am, our friend pulled the power strip out and everyone thought Y2K actually hit us.
2000 – 2001: Nothing. I literally slept through midnight. It was a rough year.
2001 – 2002: Party at MMike’s House!!!!
2002 – 2003: Quiet night at the apartment with Jess, a bottle of Gin, and vegetarian Bean Dip.
2003 – 2004: At the Jacksonville Pier with Grace and Mike H.
2004 – 2005: My first with Vince, my first in Central Florida, spent at Matt D.’s house and followed-up by a pretty wicked night at Vince’s apartment with his besties. Thank GOD there are no photos of this event. Lord jesus.
2005 – 2006: My second with Vince, my second in Central Florida, also spent at Matt D’s house and that time we did it right ON New Years so no follow-up needed.
2006 – 2007: Party at Raph’s house in Sarasota. This was a private event where we camped in a friend’s backyard on the beach featuring an insanely weird mariachi band that made everyone’s ears bleed, an “I never should have gave you mushrooms girl” and one of the worst party hangovers of my LIFE – and we had to get brunch and drive back to Orlando the next day. So, so painful.
2007 – 2008: We ended up staying in Orlando because of my work schedule and had Amanda, David, Jason, Lauren, and Todd over. This is the one where Vince and I ended up in a closet at 5am. Lord I am so glad I can’t find these photos.
2008 – 2009: Another year when the actual NYE was kind of odd but we followed-up with a house party. Dave, Vince, Jeff, and myself went to a club Vince built sound for at Disney. The next day we hosted a house party with Lauren, Carrie, Jon, Tracy, and Greg. I can only think of one photo from this party and it’s me, Lauren, and Dave hugging in the kitchen. PANTS FOUND IT! 🙂
2009 – 2010: We hosted a giant camping party at our friend’s parent’s property in the middle of nowhere and it was awesome. A bounce house, a giant projection screen, DJ’s lined up from 5pm to 4pm the next day, tent city,… ahh the good old days.
2010 – 2011: I LITERALLY CANNOT REMEMBER WHAT I DID ON THIS NYE. I think we kept it super chill and lived it up on Vince’s birthday 13 days later but… I can’t be sure.
2011 – 2012: Atlanta with Dave, Jon, and Carrie for P-Groove. I think I had more fun on the prior night with Sam, my coworker who moved there and who I dearly missed.
2012 – 2013: Yet another NYE-Eve that was the life of the weekend. We went to SoFlo and saw SOJA on the 30th and spent actual NYE at Jon and Carrie’s house with yummy champagne.
2013 – 2014: Party at Luke and Brenna’s that was so much fun. I loved this NYE maybe best of all the ones I can remember though the year that followed was absolutely horrible. Just a good old fashioned house party with people I genuinely love with all my heart.
2014 – 2015: My first after Daddy. I sobbed when the ball dropped and went to bed. Vince deserves mad credit for hanging out with bummer-me.
2015 – 2016: WE hosted the party and it was delightful! Jeff, Kat, Ryan, Alicia, Kellan, Sam, Ashley, Nick, Joey, and an insane amount of alcohol. I made a “photobooth” with Pinterest Inspiration and we had an awesome night. I’m still cleaning up confetti hidden in the corners of my back porch.
2016 – 2017: And now we’re here. And thanks to a cold I barely got through my champagne… but everyone else had a great, good old fashioned time. 😉
Looking back and going through all these memories at once really highlighted for me that the best New Year’s weren’t the craziest and the craziest didn’t even happen ON actual New Year’s but often times fell on New Year’s Eve-Eve or on January 1st.
Also, I need to make a concentrated effort to spend New Year’s with my Cody, and definitely need to spend one “out” and dressed up because that’s apparently nothing I’ve ever done before.
Basically, I hope there are many more New Year’s Eve’s to come!
Happy 2017, everyone!
